How it works

Your path from listing to a clear answer

Authentic, Fake or Unable to verify, decided by fixed rules. If it's fake, we show the proof. If something's missing, we tell you which photo we need.

  1. 1

    Add photos

Your own, or screenshots straight from the listing. One is enough to start.

  2. 2

    We check every detail

Labels, codes, stitching, logos, shape and price, against what a genuine one looks like.

  3. 3

    Get a clear answer

What passed, what didn't, and exactly what to ask the seller for.

Why not just ask a chatbot?

You can paste photos into a general chatbot and ask if something's real. Here's what a check built for the job does differently.

What it compares against
A general chatbot: Whatever it happens to remember about the product.
Legit Wear: A written checklist of the details that matter for that item, with model-specific ones for the products we cover.
Who decides the answer
A general chatbot: The chatbot itself, in its own words. Ask twice and you can get two different answers.
Legit Wear: Fixed rules. Each detail is graded on its own, then the same rules turn those grades into the answer every time.
Before it says Fake
A general chatbot: One odd-looking detail can be enough.
Legit Wear: The flaw has to survive a second look that argues the item could be genuine: wear, lighting, camera angle, a different production run.
When photos are missing
A general chatbot: It often answers anyway, and sounds just as sure.
Legit Wear: It says what it couldn't see, lists the exact photos needed, and writes the message to send the seller.
Price and listing
A general chatbot: Only if you think to ask.
Legit Wear: The price is compared with typical UK prices, and the listing wording is checked for common scam signs.
What you walk away with
A general chatbot: A few paragraphs in a chat.
Legit Wear: An itemised result you can share, and 48 hours to add the seller's new photos for free.

Neither is a guarantee. Ours is an opinion based on the photos provided.

The details a professional looks at

  • Labels, tags and codes

Fonts, layout and print sharpness, and whether serials and style codes are valid and agree with each other.

    Looks at

    Serials, style codes, care labels

  • Stitching, materials and shape

How even the stitching is, how the material looks, and whether the proportions match the real thing.

    Looks at

    Stitch lines, texture, silhouette

  • Logos, hardware and packaging

Letter shapes and spacing, where the logo sits, zips and engraving, and the box it came in.

    Looks at

    Logo placement, zips, box labels

Made for how second-hand buying really goes

A listing with only a few photos

The worry
Three photos, none of the label. Not enough to judge, and you don't want to lose the item by waiting.
What you get
We tell you what the photos do show, how it's looking so far as a percentage, and write a message asking the seller for the exact photos that are missing.

Before you check

How does a check work?

Add your own photos or screenshots from a listing. We work through a checklist for that item one detail at a time: labels and codes, logos, stitching, shape, materials and hardware. Each detail is graded on what the photos actually show, and fixed rules turn those grades into the answer. Anything blurry, cropped or missing is listed as not visible, never guessed.

What answers can I get?

Authentic, Fake, or a percentage such as "80% certain it's authentic" when the photos don't show enough for a final answer. A Fake always comes with the proof, and only after a second, sceptical look has agreed. With a percentage you also get the exact photos to ask for.

How long does it take?

Usually 1 to 2 minutes for a few photos and 1 to 3 minutes for a full set. It depends on the item and how many photos there are. You see an estimate before you start and the time left while it runs. If a check is still going after 5 minutes we stop it and give the check back.

How accurate is it?

It is Legit Wear's opinion from the photos provided, not a guarantee. Photos can't show weight, smell or feel, and a good copy can pass on the details a photo does show, so every result says what was checked, what wasn't visible and what can't be judged from photos at all. Use it alongside the platform's buyer protection.

What if you get it wrong?

If our Authentic or Fake answer turns out to be wrong, you get your money back for that check. Send us what shows it, for example a decision from the platform, the brand or another authentication service, within 30 days of the check. It covers what you paid for the check, not the item itself, so keep using the platform's buyer protection for the purchase.

What does it cost?

You pay per check: from £0.80 a check in a pack, or £1.49 for one. There is no subscription and checks never expire. New accounts get 20% off your first purchase.

What if the photos aren't enough?

You still get an answer as a percentage, the list of photos that would settle it, and a message ready to send to the seller. When they reply, add the new photos to the same check for free: up to 3 times within 48 hours.

What can you check?

26 kinds of item, from trainers, watches and bags to phones, perfume and collectibles, with detailed checklists for products from 54 brands. Anything else can still be checked against the general checklist for its kind.

What is an Assessment Certificate?

If you own the item, photograph every detail on its checklist. If the result is Authentic you get a certificate with its own page, showing the item, the date and the photos it was assessed on, so a buyer can compare them with your listing. Anyone can search a certificate by its ID on this site.

What happens to my photos?

They are deleted after the check. There are three exceptions: they are kept encrypted for up to 30 minutes while you sign up or pay, for up to 48 hours when a check needs more photos, and they are shown on an Assessment Certificate only if you agree.

Are you connected to the brands?

No. Legit Wear is independent. It isn't affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any brand it checks, and brands aren't bound by its results.

Been sent a certificate?

Search its ID to see the real one: the item, when it was assessed and the original photos. If it isn't on this site, it isn't ours.
